About Rizome Systems
Rizome Systems develops operational solutions at the intersection of climate, water, and agricultural systems. The company operates at the intersection of science, policy, and delivery, translating data, research, and field experience into operational solutions that improve resource efficiency, resilience, and long-term system performance. With active operations in Tajikistan and a growing regional presence, Rizome Systems supports action at farm, system, and institutional levels.Rizome Systems was established as an initiative of Caritas Switzerland, building on extensive field experience attained within its flagship Weather-Water-Climate Services (WWCS) engagement that was financed jointly by Caritas Switzerland and the Swiss Government. It is grounded in the recognition that without credible national ownership of systems that convert weather and climate information into operational decisions, responses remain confined to short-term coping rather than enabling dynamic adaptation. In such contexts, investments in social and economic development fail to reach their full potential. Rizome Systems was created to address this gap by developing practical approaches, tools, and services that embed climate and resource intelligence into decision-making to support a shift toward forward-looking, adaptive systems. This approach ensures that climate and resource intelligence directly informs operational practice, rather than remaining at the level of analysis or short-term response.

Open Source
Rizome Systems believes that technologies supporting climate adaptation and public health should be transparent, accessible, and locally maintainable. In partnership with Caritas Switzerland, we are progressively releasing core hardware architectures and firmware associated with a growing network of WWCS weather stations deployed across Tajikistan and Uzbekistan under a MIT License. This approach is intended to support long-term sustainability, interoperability, and local ownership of climate and environmental monitoring systems.By making core designs open-source, we support:- No Vendor Lock-in
Partners, institutions, and governments retain ownership and control over the underlying technology.- Local Innovation
Local technicians, universities, and students can study, repair, adapt, and improve deployed systems.- Scalable Deployment
Environmental monitoring platforms can be adapted efficiently across different geographies and operational contexts.Repositories:
Service & Implementation Model
Rizome Systems operates through a service-first implementation model. While core hardware architectures and data standards are designed to remain open and transparent, the long-term effectiveness of environmental monitoring systems depends on reliable deployment, maintenance, interpretation, and operational integration. Our work focuses on delivering the technical and operational support required to sustain these systems at scale and under challenging field conditions.Revenue is generated through professional service agreements, implementation contracts, long-term maintenance arrangements, advisory support, and customized analytic services delivered to governments, schools, development partners, and private sector clients. This model allows Rizome Systems to maintain open and transparent systems while supporting sustained operational delivery, technical support, and continuous improvement of deployed monitoring networks. We provide value through:- Managed Implementation
Professional installation, calibration, and deployment of environmental monitoring systems adapted to local operating conditions, including harsh environments.- Decision Support Systems
Development of cloud-based advisory and alerting tools that translate sensor data into operational guidance for institutions, communities, and field users.- Maintenance & Reliability
Long-term maintenance frameworks and service agreements designed to support system continuity, sensor reliability, and operational performance in remote and high-altitude environments.- Applied Analytics & Reporting
Customized analysis and reporting services supporting environmental monitoring, operational planning, and long-term trend assessment for public institutions and development partners. This approach supports long-term local ownership while ensuring access to the technical expertise required for reliable operational deployment.
School Environmental Monitoring
Building on operational experience in climate and environmental monitoring systems, Rizome Systems is expanding its environmental monitoring work to support schools and public institutions through low-cost, locally maintainable sensing systems focused on climate and air quality conditions.Building on operational experience in weather monitoring and advisory systems, the initiative is intended to support safer learning environments, strengthen environmental awareness, and provide practical tools for localized monitoring and response. The approach emphasizes open architectures, local ownership, and scalable deployment models that can be adapted across different geographic and institutional contexts.
